This abstract portrait is inspired by the stunning dark bay horses with black manes that have captured my heart. June was the first, purchased by our father in Camarillo when we moved to Santa Paula in 1967. We boarded her at a ranch in Wheeler Canyon, where my siblings and I learned to ride, groom, and care for her. Those days were truly magical. Jayden was the last horse I owned in Puerto Rico. A surfer girl gifted her to me; she had experienced abuse, but through kindness and patience, we built a bond of trust. Those moments were incredibly therapeutic for me. I would ride through the trails of JULIO ENRIQUE MONAGAS NATIONAL PARK behind the stables where I boarded her. So many stories to tell. Always check back to see for new paintings that pay tribute to the horses I've cherished.
