What is a Giclée?
If you’ve ever admired the crystal-clear colors and tactile surfaces of prints in a museum or Jules Smith's giclée prints hung at her gallery at the E&D Collective in downtown Santa Paula you’ve witnessed the power of the giclée.
Derived from the French term gicler – meaning ‘to squirt or spray’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto archival-quality paper or canvas to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition print to an original artwork.
For giclée prints,
- Your image resolution has to be a minimum of 300 DPI.
- Giclée prints require archival quality substrate (Canvas or paper) with a 100% acid-free base.
- Giclée prints require pigment-based inks only.
Artists, galleries, and collectors seek out giclée prints because of their unmatched standard of digital reproduction, and archival longevity.
All Jules Smith Art Prints and Art Cards are created with this Giclée process.
